How to call it to an end?

No one solution could call the umbrella movement site occupying to an end. Conditions can be: CE's resignation An apology for a specific event say tear gas 9.28 A decent timetable for coming months Arrest people who voluntarily turn themselves in Amnesty before certain deadline Protesters need to complete the rituals and government needs to handle it by stage. Actually many protesters are back to normal life and support the movement in their free time .

Principle of 'No Harm'

Hundreds of Doctors in Hong Kong expressed their feelings towards Occupy Central using maxim "Do no harm' and posted an advertisement on local newspaper. Missing the word Primum (which means First) Original quote 'Primum Non Nocere' And what about Harm-Benefit analysis? what if benefits are more than harm?

Better than Olympics

Newspaper Global Times said the Occupy Central consolidate mainlanders for their supports to the Country. Really unexpected side effects!

What they do to reporters

The blue ribbon anti central occupy protest mobs attacked reporters when reporters reported their activities at tsim sha tsim yesterday. Freedom of press is endangered. If protesters ( yellow camp) represent peace, the blue side has no hesitation to become the opposite as we see now.

ABC

People reminded me the new understanding of the alphabets 'ABC'. Now it means 'Anyone But Cy'. (it used to mean American Born Chinese) According to Wittgenstein, ways of life matters in the understanding of language. When people come out to say someone's sayings/actions are against the Basic Law of HKSAR. So others cannot challenge blah blah blah. I cannot help wondering what they really mean. Authors' intentions? People's understanding? Legal interpretations? Politicians' manipulations? Or all of the above

Think Big Climb High

Hongkongers saw a big yellow banner demanding (real) universal suffrage when they looked up to the Lion Rock. The lion rock peak has symbolic meaning to Hongkongers. It was once a popular TV series featuring lives of common people who work hard for the city. It is like Mount Rushmore to US people. The Clift climbers made it with determination that touched others.

The forbidden 'G' sound

Saxophone player Kenny G posted photos on facebook that he 'walked by' Occupy Central site during his latest visit to HK and made a very mild remark. This action made Chinese officials very unhappy. It was even being addressed in the foreign policy level. Sadly.,Kenny G quickly reiterated his support for the Chinese in general (Jacky Chan for example, he may not know what lately happened to Jacky Chan's son in China). He stressed that he was/is not in support of the movement. Anyway, he certainly treasures the market in China. That is how we can see China's 'soft power'. Honestly Hong Kongers no longer listen to his music. He was a lot popular in HK in 90's but not now. Not many kids know him.

Inequality proof

Our CE told New York Times that he does not want to 'risk giving poorer residents a dominant voice in politics.'. Guess that poorer residents become a critical mass. So if HK seems to be a rich city in some sense, the inequality must be very real.

The Dialogue

Finally first dialogue between govt officials and students regarding recent situations. Govt viewpoints are more or less predictable. The students surprised me a lot by focusing what they truly care. As an adult, I am more than happy to have You representing me.

Milan

Please mind the gap

Those were the days, our mass transit railway (subway/metro/underground) had an announcement each time the door was about to close. This evening the govt officials will have dialogue with student representatives. I suddenly remembered the announcement. Many Gaps, social, political, or generation... Mind the gaps, so that we won't fall.

A person that drives reporters mad

It is so easy to predict the answers from the Chief Executive. He only has one solution to all questions. He could not give a direct answer and he only diverts attention. Always predictable and not insightful. p.s. he always refers to foreign influence to the movement but could not name exactly which. Who are the scarecrows? Oh what about UGL?

Analysing the medal list?

It is really interesting to analyze the Bauhinia Medal list 2014. Who have been handpicked by CE in his kingdom to be awarded with city medals? The list included very controversial figures in the city.

Postmodernized

It suddenly dawned to me how postmodern current HK is. How people treat narratives. How people see truth. How signs have been massively used in the movement.

What is not a weapon?

According to the pro govt legislator,an umbrella was/is a weapon in hk movie series Wong Fei Hung (a martial arts movie hero based on a real person's story)黃飛鴻,Em....not to say it is a movie, the legislator has no idea of what umbrella was made of in those days. Umbrellas selling today can hardly counter typhoon. And in those movies, Master Wong who uses umbrella is a good guy. He helps people fighting bad guys as the system cannot protect the public. So thank you for clarifying who the villains are. Well, there are too many 'Humpty Dumpty' in this city. HK is truly a wonderland.

Bad move govt

Every time there is a chance of dialogue or reconciliation, govt will do sth stupid to ruin it. Latest 6 policemen pulled a protester (later known as social worker and local civic party member) to corner beating him and the media seen as pro govt accidentally has it recorded. That media management later revised description to downplay the case. Of course it is not successful. Again public anger has been stirred up. govt led by CY ( known by public as 689 as he had been voted to be CE by having 689 votes) said that the will handle the case according to the law. Public doubted what sort of law he adheres to based on what he did for the last few weeks. Media freedom has been endangered by current city leadership, if I can still call it as leadership.

Colored movement ?

If we believe what Reuters and people daily conveyed as China govt attitude towards HK situation, next wave of immigration is expected. Economy will be hurt. Not many people know the occupy central action protocol. I do not. I have no idea what the protocol is about and how it is a US initiated protocol. The methods used in the movement are local ideas. That is why other countries find this movement so surreal. I do not think that scaffolding defense is a western idea. And if china says it is a colored revolution, they do not know lately anti protesters have used blue color too. Govt allows gangsters like people to create disputes in occupy central is more more disturbing than what protested did to the society. Immigration, is on the move. Last two years people say the city is dying, now can be viewed as certified.sad indeed.

Resign, we sigh!

He will never resign He needs not resign Repeatedly he says Like an answering machine Like an egocentric parrot Brainlessly repeating He knows not what dialogue is We sigh He smiles We r-r-re-----sigh ps In Chinese we have a saying, 易請難送,easy to accept your invitation but very difficult to send him away. No one wants such a person in your house, right?

If we were young

I also believe that the young protesters may not be realistic if you evaluate the situation using pre-existing parameters. However, it is also difficult for them to trust the adults again based on the changing attitude of govt.i know negotiation should not be like this but I cannot point out a possible solution for the young people. Why would they listen to us if we barely understand them. They tried very hard to be not political as they see how politics makes no better world. If we were that young, what choices would we make? Will we continue sit in or give up now as if nothing happens. At this stage, a sincere apology from the govt is the easiest thing that can be done and should be done. All other seemingly impossible requests can be discussed further in new channels. A competent govt would not only blame their citizens for out of control. The govt has no idea what people think.

Calling an end to dialogue

Govt said no to the promised dialogue. Both sides cannot agree on the agenda items. Some doubt whether students can represent the people. However, we have to bear in mind that it was the students calling for ultimatum. Anyway, I am still not sure what the meeting is for. Meeting = negotiation ? The students were asking for dialogue!

Very HK very unique way of handling conflicts

People use 'Mo Lei Tau' (= cannot make sense of,which is the style Stanley Chow represents in his movies) to counter disturbances created by opposition camp at the occupied sites. They sing birthday song together when the 'enemy' comes.

To work or not to work

Dear legislative councillors, I am very concerned about the cancellation of the legislative council first meeting. Many companies now have contingency plans in place and I am sure that Video conferencing, teleconferencing are options that you can explore. Otherwise, I may consider it a strike. Should I?

East vs West still? That simple

Heard a conversation between a student from mainland studying overseas and a tourist from mainland. They said people from 'west' are more self centered . Western always say what they want and Chinese always ask what 'you' want. Say in a dinner setting, Chinese always ask what guests want to eat first. As a person who lives in Hk, there is no East vs West mindset, we enjoy both values. We speak up our wants and take care other fellows. Of course some still stick to utilitarian familism but many surpass it through the current movement.

Reading newspaper overseas

From newspaper, there are still things that other people outside hk may not see. The movement was expanded because of govt inappropriate use of tear gas to not armed protesters, later govt finally agreed to have dialogue with people but no real date or details confirmed. Chief executive even said that he will never resign。people were largely calm down at the point. Then govt allowed Pro CE groups in the the name of other HK people to create disputes at sites, insulting school girls. Our CE was understood by public to be closely linked to these activities,. People again were angry and disappointed. Even reporters have been hit. The movement was a mass movement. Even withiin the same camp, there are different opinions. People are in tension state under the situation that the govt tried to create. People are tired but they do not want one more day under this current CE. Others may not like occupy Central but few could deny that the CE is despicable/incapable. People also fear that govt will do nasty things to them 秋後算賬,what current CE famous for in the city using his power to limit resources for those against him using govt resources. To leave or to stay, the question that each particular questions themselves everyday. One thing that is sure, out younger generation lose trust of the current government and manipulative politicians. This movement may have an end some day but the impact will not.

為何中共容許港特首借用名義搞亂香港?百思不得其解

Batman

I knew why Batman was filmed here in HK. The villains use dark side power to make people fear.

Politicians are taking advantages of the situation

The nasty side of politics, those politicians that people no longer trust want to take over and claim the glory of the movement. How sad!

Media zone. Protest zone

If the number of protesters is manageable, why can't they set up zones? I cannot tell passer by, protesters and media on TV screen, confusing

To those who stay even main organizers and most leave

There are always some people that they hold on to their purposes without listening to others. Do what you normally deal with usual protest will be good enough, dear police force, you image will be restored. It is your duty to restore order with appropriate actions ( depending on what protesters do). Your frontline should not be there for breakfast, lunch and dinner x n times if the wait is unnecessary.

At least a solution finally

The latest press conference by chief executive and chief secretary opened a channel to communicate. A step forward, applauded to those who facilitated this, whoever they are. 至少政府肯對話了

Re- distribution

The movement has brought some changes to the society, like it or not. Environmental department kept complaining over years air pollution and the difficulties in making people environmental friendly. The districts people occupied have best air quality because of less cars. People choose walking instead of driving, better exercise of the public and more caution of car using as many families have more than one car even there is only 4 members in the family. My friend and I concluded that there is re- distribution of power and space and resources. Small shops actually have better business than huge brands these days. Many things happened during this period can become research materials for the better of the whole world: media/social media/political actions, paradigm shift, generation gap, inequality, new value arising for self actualization, decline of elite leadership, mode of social and political movement, cultural diff in political movement.

押上中國夢

中國這一兩年做這麼多外交工夫,今日全押在一小人身上,奇哉!

Disappointment at local leaders

They do not know the current Hong Kong. They probably live in their beautiful houses tasting wine and thinking things will be over soon. They do not have courage to protect others. They do not have guts to show something yellow in the national day cocktail party. Only few tendered resignation of their public duties. They are too used to their privileges in the society. But they will see that they lose people's respect because their detachment from the current movement. They go back again and again to support a person that is more that sure unpopular. What is the psychology behind. Today demands may not be met and the impact is there. It will continue in different forms and different ways. Good sleep for the days to come, my dear local leaders. p.s. they may be afraid of CY, remembering how people comment about him when he ran the so called election.

Who's afraid of CY?

Govt said that they now want dialogue but resignation of Chief Executive is impossible. Do they know how to handle negotiation? Could an international hub like Hong Kong be run by an incapable man. Why China has been dragged to this situation? Why CE cannot be replaced? secrets are to be revealed?

管治權的迷思

香港人其實最想有能力的人管理香港,管治權在中國,基本上是現實。

From Abraham Lincoln

The people will save their government if the government itself will do its part only indifferently well

Democracy why here and now

The govt took no action to have dialogue with the protesters. Non responsive not responsible, our CE has no shame and no guilt, sad!

世界在變

如中國真怕香港教壞其他城市,我相信冇好多內地城市有咁嘅特殊性及國際性。我亦相信內地官冇人想同梁特首相比,我係佢老板,一定炒,費時拖累自己,問題係我唔係佢老板,

Social contract

In Hk, I experienced the spirit of social contract. Two demands: - Down Chief Executive CY Leung - universal suffrage next CE
