Year 2008 Happy New Year!

Year 2007 is pretty eventful.

I was sick(removal of wisdom teeth if you count it as well).
the department was sick.
my friend was sick.
my mom was sick.

When I look back, still all I can feel and remember is the love that I receive.
God has healed me in his way.

God has blessings for me as well.
My sister & friends safely delivered their babies.
I enjoyed my blog this year as I really create a platform that could freely express my views and share with my friends.

In 2007, I read lots of books, watched lots of movies & plays, listened lots of songs, wrote lots of articles, ate lots of food, visited lots of cafe, took lots of photos, encountered many new things, making new friends....

Really grateful that I can still survive though life is not getting easier,hahaha!
God has plans for me. I keep that in mind always.

Once in a while, hymns that I sang in school days come back to my mind like this one pushing me stepping forward:

With God things don't just happen
Everything by him is planned
So as I face tomorrow
With problems large and small
I trust the God of miracles, give to him my all.

羊味無窮(水街巴依餐廳)

呢間餐廳係阿妹介紹俾我,天氣涷時,就會想幫襯.羊肉餃子加羊肉串(外賣時除去竹枝),雞翼再加枝可樂.羊肉串有孜然粉,終於有好似去左北京食新彊羊肉串ge感覺.妙哉.

A play and a movie

I watched a play in the sat afternoon -Chung Yin Theatre Company's Cyrano de Bergerac. I had high expectation and ended up pretty diappointed. There is no tension in the play. Cyrano can only be attractive if he is in pain, yet pretends to be playful on the surface. That creates tension.
Audiences will not be touched because they cannot feel/see the pain - the unspoken love. because of the lack of confidence in appearance. (see the success of 'Beauty and the beast' , 'the phantom of the opera'). Little gestures of love are important details in making audience believe that Cyrano is indeed making sacrifice. But can't find any in the performance today. The clown's role in a play is normally for anti-climax, for relief of tension but there is no tension to be relieved! The clown characters are usually most popular and they are not this time. There is only one time applause at the end of the play. As a frequent goer of plays, you know what it means. I don't want to be harsh or demanding but I do thirst for good play.

I watched a movie at night - Atonement. Making my final move towards christmas movies.
In a nutshell, you could find the theme of atonement already existed in the ten commandments,

You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. Deuteronomy 4:20

There is no flashback, playback, rewriting in real life/reality.
Let not jealousy, pride, selfishness or love blind our eyes and turn us to lies
It could be a tragic no-return.

Same director once directed pride and prejudice, you can see that Jane Austen's things run in the blood of the little sister Baillie.

咖喱魷魚與臭荳腐

在灣仔泉昌買咖喱魷魚,一路等一路睇人炸臭荳腐,點知我件冷衫吸哂味,唔食荳腐都一身臭,早知就整番件啦!記得好耐之前我同Yannie.林同學隨街買左臭荳腐,一時忘形,齊齊跳上的士,好彩司機無怪我地.而我對上一次食,應該係兩年前,花園街享負盛名臭荳腐店.

這個下午很無聊

張震嶽呢個歌名勁正,無聊ge下午我會食野.睇書.睇戲,仲睇番55年瑪莉蓮夢露主演ge七年之癢,因為我一直想知,係咩情況下,條裙會咁吹起.原來係紐約太熱,瑪莉蓮夢露用地鐵在地下造成ge風"乘涼",個時正藉男主角同佢睇完"影射King kong" ge電影,”the creature from black lagoon”.

話實七年之癢套戲真係幾好睇,玩心理分析,玩中年身份危機,瑪莉連夢露ge角色係做無殺傷力的玩具(doll),滿足男人幻想同慾望.係呢方面,瑪莉蓮夢露絕對交足課,佢D動作.衣裝同語氣fit絕,難怪係性感女神.

周末飲食扎記

星期六約楊生楊太到Mega Box魯一居食山東菜,炒肉拉皮要訂,未能嘗試,據聞小籠包師傅來自翡翠,皮做得好;肉略嫌不夠肥潤.蘿蔔絲鯽魚湯,可惜蘿蔔味出哂黎,魚味冇定企.飯後楊生請食發記甜品,多謝哂.

星期天先來個IFC canteen六寶飯,同鳳萍El Pomposo暢飲sangria,中場休息在The Grand睇破事兒,晚黑Megu"蠔"食日本菜,蠔超新鮮,我叫左路過ge阿妹試番隻.佳節當前,美食實在少不免.

Amos

My University CA friend Michael gave his first sermon today.
I am very happy for him.
I can see his dedications and his preparations for the service.
May God use him to bless more people.
He rekindled my interests in Amos (not cookies, but a chapter in bible)
It is more interesting than I used to think.
It allows me having better understanding of God himself.

These two weeks, I listened two moving sermons.
Last week I heard some interesting analysis of jesus's family tree.
3 controversial women in that family tree
That tells me God can use anybody

With that in mind, I was uneasy about the preaching strategy of local christian community.
We implicitly value witness from 'Dr", be it physician or PhD ( so called authoritative figure or opinion leader)
I suspect that those titles have no meanings in the kingdom of God.
God can use anybody. Be it a housewife, a doctor, a policeman....
In my view, we should treasure everyone's witness of God,. they are the manifestation of God's love and grace

Perhaps it also explains why we have a christmas combo like the following:
The Kings, the shepherds, Mary (very ordinary girl's name??), Joseph (though can't find him in Book Matthew v.2-11 meeting the kings) and baby jesus

Early Merry Christmas from Gingerman!

Impressed by Starbucks

Our Dept had an early meeting at 7.45 today.
As a 'cha shui miu', I need to get coffee ready before the meeting.
And people prefer starbucks.
I called Starbucks the day before.
but the one nearby opens at 8.
Yet the lady did not turn me down.
They said that they would try to arrange.
And they did. Professionally.
12 cups of drinks all ready and a muffin reheated by 7.30.
I was so impressed by their efficiency.
I really appreciate their attitude as they have flexblie mindset of doing things.
Thanks again Starbucks staff. I know you have to get up pretty early today to prepare my coffee.
